The networking events were started as a way of introducing the network Deaf creatives
in South Wales. IBSL invitations were sent out to artists around Wales to join in the day, with plans for the day outlined via the Our Visual World Facebook group.
This first event was hosted by our partner the Glynn Vivian Gallery, and commenced with a delicious spread of sandwiches and conversation and introductions. The first workshop was delivered by Emily Rose Corby in journalling where she showed examples of her work within this area and encouraged participants to use collage, paint and a vast array of materials in their own special notebook.
Attendees immersed themselves in a watercolour workshop guided by esteemed mentor Rubbena Aurangzeb-Tariq and emerging artist Melissa Payne. While sipping countless cups of tea and indulging in cake of all sorts of varieties, participants unleashed their creativity, experimenting with watercolour techniques and expressing their unique artistic visions. The group walked over to GS artists for a discussion session, looking at how they feel about their current position as Deaf artists in Wales and what they want from a network. It gave us an opportunity to explain the network’s intentions. The day ended with a supper of vegan chilli.
